How to create multi connection with Interactive Brokers and MetaStock?
Recently, we have showed you the way to connect MetaStock to PTMC. Today, we will help you to create a multi-connection with Interactive Brokers and MetaStock.
As you know, using multiple connections grants to configure multiple data providers with brokers or OMS. If you want to get historical and real-time quotes in multiple markets, you need to connect a data provider to your current broker.
So, here is how you do it on the example of MetaStock XENITH as a data provider and Interactive Brokers as a broker.
1) Open a MetaStock account
Open an account on their website and purchase a pack of software. Here you can get to know how to do it.
2) Install MetaStock XENITH on your PC
Download and install MetaStock XENITH from their website.
3) Set up a multi-connection between MetaStock and Interactive Brokers
Go to Settings on the login screen of the platform, create a new connection, set the name Interactive Brokers + MetaStock, and, as the primary connection, select Interactive Brokers. Make sure that the field Host name contains the following data: ‘ localhost: ____’ with your Socket Port:
4) Create a Sub Connection to the primary connection
Press Add and select Sub Connection. Define the name MetaStock, select a provider from the Vendor list. As well you can create multiple Sub Connections to different data providers.
5) Enter your broker's and MetaStock credentials
After you save the settings, enter the credentials you've received from Interactive Brokers. Press Log in. During the connection of the terminal to Interactive Brokers, there will be launched MetaStock and will also prompt you for the login and password from your account.
6) Enter a trading symbol in the lookup
After launching the PTMC, enter a trading symbol in the Lookup field and select a necessary instrument.
7) Create a link in the Symbol Mapping Manager
Select Vendor (if they will be several), Vendor Data type (Quotes + History / Quotes / History) as well as create a link between Trade and Quote symbol in the Symbol Mapping Manager panel. You can create trade links manually: just open this panel via Tools -> Symbol Mapping Manager.
After making a link in Symbol Mapping Manager, you have the whole market data via MetaStock. Opening a new order will be placed via Interactive Brokers.
