VWAP & Ticker Entry
To give you some backstory, I've been trying to settle with a new trading platform for the past few months. My style of trading is slow and steady with trades (US stocks) lasting a few minutes to a few hours, which is why I benefit greatly from enhanced charting and scanning over speed (Mouse/Chart trader is perfect for me). Finding PTMC on a whim seems like a huge win for me right now as I was becoming increasingly frustrated with IB TWS. That being said, I still have some basic questions which I can't find the answers to online or on Youtube.
VWAP - I understand this is not an indicator with PTMC, but rather an analytical tool, but how the hell do I get it on the chart? I'm actually wondering if this is simply the IB demo limitation? Any help would be much appreciated.
Stock Ticker Entry - Once again, very simple question and I feel like a fool to ask this. But why do I have to specify an exchange with the stock ticker that I input into my chart? Can I not simply input AAPL and have all exchange data/volume shown? Is this a demo/data limitation again?
I appreciate anyone's time and help.
Cheers,
R.
Hello!
Thank's for your feedback.

As I see, you are using PTMC with Interactive Brokers. Unfortunately, you can't use any analysis tools in the IB, because IB doesn't provide tick data (and trades) via their API. If you want to use VWAP(or other analysis tools) with IB, you should use multi-connect IB+datafeed (IQfeed or MetaStock).Yes, you are right. VWAP - an analytical tool, but it depend on broker.
Stock Ticker Entry - Once again, very simple question and I feel like a fool to ask this. But why do I have to specify an exchange with the stock ticker that I input into my chart? Can I not simply input AAPL and have all exchange data/volume shown? Is this a demo/data limitation again?
We have two variants to search instruments: via small and big lookups.
1) If you want to search instruments via big lookup, you should to know Exchange and Symbol type for your instrument.
2) If you want to search instruments via small lookup, you should to know only name of instrument.
After entering the name of the instrument in a small lookup, you have to choose the required instrument for you.
Also, if you don't want to search instrument every time, you can save your instruments in the custom list on the "Watchlist" panel. It will save your time in the future.
As for the big lookup and small lookup, I don't see how that's relevant to equities traders. One cannot simply type in AAPL to go to the chart? Not sure what the advantage is to trading on a specific exchange with limited volume as opposed to total market view. Please explain if I am missing a fundamental part of trading here.
Thanks,
I think minute data would be a substantial improvement over what IB is offering as it is a major reference for buying or selling equities. As I mentioned before, IB does not include an intraday VWAP indicator, so most traders have to pay for TC2000 or other charting software just to get a reference which is on another duplicated chart. A waste of screen time and money!
As for the symbol entry for IB users, I feel like that is a deal breaker right off the bat. It is not efficient or practical and decreases the speed of any user who inputs a stock. I understand that there are limitations to the API, however, talking to the IB API support, they were under the impression that a parameter could be implemented to default to that exchange quite easily? I am out of my league on this, so if you guys come up with a solution, I will no doubt do my part to help promote what I think would be the essential platform for IB users.
Please keep me up to date with any updates with this. As of now, I can't use PTMC, but hope to one day.
Thanks again!
